FAQs

Marine Rescue Systems have designed a specific beacon to be used for the 0il & Gas Industry environments where there is a risk of ignition.

Recommended use:
Explosive atmospheres - e.g. oil rigs, gas platforms, jetty or work areas with explosive material.

This unit is tested as intrinsically safe for Zone 1/Zone 0 the United States market and just recently been tested and approved throughout Europe for ATEX (new European Conformity for Intrinsic safe).

Recommended Product: SMRS-IS (US) & ISPLB8 (European Community)

News!   March 2003 - Sea Marshall® Equipment Approved As Oil Industry Standard FOR SanteFe.

Global-SantaFe,the Worlds Largest Drilling Contractor, has recognized and approved the Sea Marshall® Emergency Response Equipment as mandatory, standard equipment for all overside workers on all of their Drilling Rigs Worldwide. The Sea Marshall® products were chosen over and above all the competition as they are deemed the best and only equipment for the job.

The PLB's are fitted into a Mullion Lifejacket. Refer to NEWS Jan 2003 - A typical lifejacket Installation.

FAQ How would Sea Marshall equipment be used to protect oil and gas workers on a jetty?

MRT have commissioned an extensive Sea Marshall® MOB system on the 2 mile long jetty at the Texaco Pembroke refinery.

Texaco's objective was to create a system which continuously monitors the jetty 2 mile long) and waters around the jetty for any sign of one of their operating crews accidentally going into the water.

The crews working the pier were "kitted" out with the Intrinsically safe version of the Sea Marshall® PLB, known as the ISPLB8 (or SMRS-IS). Five monitoring stations were set up along the jetty at regular intervals. The monitoring equipment fitted at each station is made up of a Crewguard receiver linked into an auto-dialer, all housed in a small stainless steel cabinet, which is in turn linked into the main emergency number for the refinery. The receivers all have externally mounted antennas to provide greater range and all had their own power supply in the event of any form of power failure.

When the Sea Marshall transmitter is activated one of the Crewguard receivers recognizes the signal and activates its auto-dialers. In turn this will ring the dedicated
emergency phone at the front gate security office and play a pre-recorded message outlining the nature of the situation and the number of the Berth at which the signal was picked up. This information will then be relayed to the rescue crews who can move to that location. A rigid inflatable rescue boat is on permanent standby to recover a man from the water, this craft was also outfitted with a Crewfinder direction finder unit to allow the rescue crew to track and locate an MOB wearing a PLB. The system runs perfectly and serves as a template for a safety standard for all other similar Texaco applications installations.
